Steven Gerrard has given the clearest hint yet that Michael Owens future  may still lie at Anfield. A number of national newspapers  carried an interview with Gerrard in which he clearly stated that the England goal machine was the obvious solution to the reds recent goal drought .  It seems impossible to argue with this suggestion given Owens proven track record both at home and abroad. He also offered a veiled threat to the current strikers, with only bean pole striker Peter Crouch regarded as good enough to survive the end of season cull.  He conceded that although Crouch will never be prolific he could be the perfect foil for a natural finisher like Owen, much as Emile Heskey was during his days as a international marksman. It remains to be seen whether another Kop idol will follow the idolised Robbie Fowler back to Anfield, only time will tell.
