Rafael Bennitez has been left fuming over his inability to appeal against Xabi Alonso’s sending off in last Sundays Highbury showdown. Alonso’s controversial sending off resulted from two yellow cards meaning that Liverpool have no right to appeal despite television pictures clearly showing the Spanish midfielder did not intentionally trip Philip Senderos. This seems like another example of football red tape getting in the way of doing what is right for the game. Bennitez himself was obviously left frustrated saying "What can be done? It is a question for the referee’s supervisor." Alonso will now miss tomorrow’s game against Fulham, a game that the Reds need to win if they are to maintain hope of securing second place in the league come the end of the season.
