| Michael Owen has today dismissed rumours of a summer return to Anfield. Steven Gerrard claimed earlier this week that Owen is the ideal man to end Liverpool’s goal drought. But Owen today claimed that he is going no where. “Its nice of Steven to say what he thinks of me, but someone else makes those decisions. I am happy here, as I have always said. I made a decision last summer to come here and have loved every minute” (BBC News). This can only be viewed as bad news for the club, with Owen seen as an ideal replacement for any of the current crop of strikers. The England man would have no worries putting away the plethora of chances that get wasted each week both at Anfield and further a field. It remains to be seen whether Owen is merely biding his time or if he does truly see his future at St James Park. A lot surely depends on who Newcastle bring in to permanently replace Graham Souness, and what funds the new manager will be given to expand the squad. |
